Past Scholarship Recipients

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Butte College Foundation awards scholarships to deserving students on an annual basis. During the last school year, the Foundation processed over $300,000 representing 469 scholarships. We are proud of the many students to whom we have been able to provide scholarships over the years, many of whom have gone on to successful careers and community service. Over the years, the Butte College Foundation has awarded over $1.6 million in scholarship support to about 2,500 deserving students. If you or one of your loved ones was one of those recipients, the Butte College Foundation would like to hear from you.

We look forward to helping many more Butte College students this year with scholarships and grants for important programs.

Butte College student, Tee Thor, lost his right leg at the age of 13 to bone cancer.  It didn’t take long before he wanted to become a nurse himself.  Today he is enrolled in the Butte College Automotive Technology Program.  Tee came to realize that without the nurses and doctor’s help, he wouldn’t be alive today.  He says it is his time to help and give back.

“I am more than ever determined to fulfill this goal, my dream.  Although cancer left me with disabilities and struggles every day, I am not allowing this to get in my way. Instead I work hard in school and maintain a good GPA.   The Margaret Desmond Hughes and Earl Foor Scholarships I received through the Butte College Foundation helps sustaining my dream.  The support of the Butte College Foundation allows me to continue paying for college expenses.

My name is Elizabeth Graham. During the summer of 2004, my daughter and I were living in a tent along the Feather River. The Butte College Foundation provided the scholarship I needed to turn my life around. It has enabled me to complete two associate degrees at Butte College and to graduate with Phi Theta Kappa honors for academic excellence.

Today I am a Political Science major at CSU, Chico. I have been selected to participate in a prestigious congressional intership in Washington D.C. with a California member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Follow my story on my blog, Mrs. Graham goes to Washington.

I cannot say enough about how much the Butte College Foundation scholarship helped me while I pursued my education. I needed someone to believe in me, and with your help I was able to complete my degree.
