Dear Friends,
A community is more than just a unified body of individuals interacting together, having common social, economic or political interests. It is a conscientious effort on the part of the individuals to work together toward a common goal.
The Butte College Foundation is made up of volunteer members of our community that are united in the common goal of raising supplemental funding to enhance and support scholarships, programs, services, developmental needs and public understanding of our Community College District.
Certainly, Butte College is a beautiful place; a gem in the community college system of California. But new buildings, lovely grounds, and an idyllic location are not enough without the people that make it a living community. It is this community of dedicated educators, administrators, staff, and volunteers working together to provide the best education possible for the students that make Butte College a truly special place.
In 2010 the charitable giving by Americans was approximately $290 Billion dollars. Did you know that 73% of all of all of these donations were made by individuals? You, me, our neighbors, our co-workers; as individuals we are very generous with charitable donations. People are always amazed at this statistic because they assume that it is corporations and “big” foundations that give away the lion’s share of the contributions. But in reality it is we who make the changes in our community. By supporting the work of the Butte College Foundation you can personally make a significant difference in OUR community.
Certainly, budgets are tight, student demand is increasing, and programs and services are in need of additional funding. But what can an individual do when the need is so great? How can you contribute and make a difference in our community?
* Develop and commit to your own style of philanthropy; whether you view it as a hand out or a hand up, do something every day to make a difference. Perhaps the Butte College Affinity Credit Card could be a small first step, or joining us for the Presidents Golf Tournament in September.
* Consider estate planning now, so that your wishes are known and take steps is taken to fulfill them. You can make a huge difference by simply taking the time to plan for the future. Start by putting together your will or trust and leaving a portion of your assets to the Butte College Foundation. A memorial scholarship to honor a loved one or a gift to an academic program can go a long ways to making a difference in our community.
Begin now and create a charitable budget so that you can contribute throughout the year. Commit today to making a difference in our community by working together to better our students, our community, and ourselves.
We are indeed a better community because of the impact of Butte Community College.
